CATALDO AWARD: $500 + plaque Awarded annually to a graduating student(s) in the special education program at DHHS who is(are) nominated and chosen by the DHHS faculty. SAM ANDERSON AWARD: $500 Awarded annually to a graduating student who will be pursuing further education in the culinary or nursing fields. In memory of Sam Anderson, an early member of the Madison Exchange Club. ACE AWARD: $100 Awarded annually to a junior student who has been judged by the DHHS faculty as "most improved." MATH AWARD: $100 Awarded annually to a graduating senior selected by the DHHS faculty. SCIENCE AWARD: $100 Awarded annually to a graduating senior selected by the DHHS faculty. DUNN HEENEN SCHOLARSHIP: Club makes a $100 contribution to this scholarship. Awarded annually to a graduating senior selected by the DHHS faculty. Given in memory of the son of club member Dunn Heenen. SID EVARTS/JOHN JANSSEN SCHOLARSHIP: $100 Awarded to a graduating senior intending to pursue studies in the agricultural field. Not necessarily awarded every year. Amounts not awarded in a given year are accumulated for future awards. Given in memory of two charter members of the Madison Exchange Club. YOUTH OF THE YEAR PROGRAM: $1,500 for Youth of the Year; $100 for each of 6 finalists; dinner invitation for all winners and their parents. The initial selection of qualifying students is made by the DHHS faculty and administration. Those students must then complete an application process which includes 2 essays, submission of their academic record for sophomore through senior years, and a listing of extracurricular activities. A team of Exchangeites then meets to review the students' input and select the 6 finalists. AMERICAN LEGION BOYS' AND GIRLS' STATE: Club makes $1,000+ contribution. Several students are selected by the DHHS administrator and approved and funded by Madison Exchange to attend a week-long summer program at a state university campus. Activities include civics studies and election campaigns. |
